"The peaceful atmosphere of Talež, the smell of imortelle, rosemary, sage and heather, the warmth of a baker's oven, crickets, the wind blowing through pines at midday, the voices of field laborers in the valley, all of this is indelibly etched on my childhood memories"

Renovated Hamlet of Cypresses

Our "liberum arbitrium" was the renovation of Talež, a deserted small hamlet in the inland of Vis. It was founded by the Borčić family (the Kosans) at the end of 18th and the beginning of 19th century. The hamlet is situated at 220 metres above the sea level, and is surrounded by cypresses and pine trees. It lies 5o metres below the top of a high ground which offers a wonderful view over the south Adriatic islands Sušac, Lastovo, Korčula and Hvar. Moreover, on a bright sunny day you can even see the island of Palagruža, as well as the Italian mainland. On the other side, the hamlet has a view of a valley with vineyards, as well as the surrounding villages: Podšpilje, Žena glava, Duboka and Borovik. Nearby, only several hundred metres to the south-west is one of the oldest archaeological sites Glavica, also known as the "Teuta's lighthouse", situated at 245 metres above sea level. Presumably, it dates from the 4th century B.C., and was the largest lighthouse in this part of the Adriaric.

The renovation of the hamlet began in 2000., with the aim of restoring its original appearance. "The peaceful atmosphere of Talež, the smell of imortelle, rosemary, sage and heather, the warmth of a baker's oven, crickets, the wind blowing through pines at midday, the voices of field laborers in the valley, all of this is indelibly etched on my childhood mamory, when, as a little girl, I used to spend much of my summer breaks at my grangrandmother Franina's".

Some of these feelings and memories have influenced the renovation, and form its integral part. Apart from the renovation and the development of eco-tourism, we wish to work out and start visual art, musical, architecural, theatrical and literary workshops for our guests and friends...

Accommodation

We offer our guests accommodation in completely renovated old island houses located in a unique natural surrounding, and with a beautiful view of the sea and the islands of the southern Adriatic.

The property offers a unique opportunity for looking into the history, culture and architecture of the island's rural region. The area around the house covers around 13,000 square metres. There is also a pool (7x3.5m) and a barbecue. Three houses are prepared for the accommodation of 3 families or groups of friends (cca 12 people). Each house (cca 60 square metres) has two bedrooms, a kitchen with a dining area and a bathroom with a shower.

There ia also a movable air condition, a small TV set, a gas cooking stove, a microwave oven and an electric grill in each of them.

A separate house of around 40 square metres offers the guests a lounge with satellite television, a bar, a computer, a music area and an open fireplace, where they can socialize.

An old paved road takes from Vis to Podšpilje. You can come to Talež by car, if you follow the old 350-metres-long macadam at the exit from the town of Duboka in Podšpilje.

A daily delivery of fresh bread, fruits, vegetables and other provisions, as well as doing the laundry, can be arranged.
