Island of Vis is an island rich in history, from the prehistoric settlement dating back to the Bronze and Iron Ages, to the well-known period of the Greek settlement ISSA, the naval battles of 1811 and 1816 important to the history of Europe, as well as a series of foreign rulers such as the Greeks, the Illyrians, the Byzantines, the French, the Russians, the English and the Austrians.

 

Restaurants and Entertainment

Across from Talež, some 500 metres by road, there are restaurants serving local cuisine, where you can make reservations for lunch or dinner. These are "Pol Murvu", "Darko" and "Maxo". On the way to Rukavac there is an excellent restaurant called "Ferol", and in Rukavac there is a restaurant next to the sea called "Dalmatino".

In the town of Vis, in the area known as Kut, you can find the restaurant "Pojoda" owned by Zoran Brajčić, who has been known as the best chef for several years now, and everyone should try his specialities. There are more good and well-known restaurants like "Morski Val", "Vatrica", as well as "Villa Kaliopa" with its wonderful and unique atmosphere and a park of palm trees.

During the summer Vis abounds in cultural events such as concerts, theatrical performances and regattas. A part of the tourist offer are also excursions around the island and trips to coves Stiniva, Stončica Srebrna, Rukavac, Zaglov, Rude and Trovna with the restaurant owned by Senko Karuza, a cult figure in literature.There are regular excursions to "Modra špilja" («the Blue cave») on the island of Biševo, as well as short trips to the islands of Sveti Andrija and Brusnik.

Komiža is a town-museum due to its position and the preserved unity of the old settlement. It has also lots of restaurants and places to go out. Some of the restaurants are "Bako", "Nono", "Jastožera", "Modra spilja", etc.
